15 → 189 clients in 11 months. During COVID.
Big Little Gyms had 15 coaching clients in March 2020 when the world shut down. Eleven months later it had 189. I led growth operations through the entire run, and the harder job was making sure fulfillment scaled with it.
COVID hit. Demand was suddenly everywhere.
Big Little Gyms coached fitness professionals at the exact moment the entire fitness industry got pulled online overnight. Demand exploded. The team had no systems to absorb it: manual onboarding, ad-hoc fulfillment, no acquisition engine, no client experience playbook.
The problem was not getting attention. The problem was not breaking under the weight of it.
Three systems, all at once.
Most installs build acquisition first and worry about fulfillment later. This one could not afford that order. Everything had to scale simultaneously.
- Acquisition: capture the COVID-driven demand at scale, qualify, and route
- Fulfillment: onboarding automation, group-coaching infrastructure, programming pipelines
- Client experience: accountability check-ins, community structure, retention loops
- Operating cadence: daily standups through the spike, weekly KPI review
- Hiring: recruited and onboarded 4 coaches while the client count multiplied
189 clients and the system held.
In 11 months, Big Little Gyms went from 15 to 189 active clients and generated $989K. The bigger win: no quality crash, no retention crater, no breakage.
This was the proof under stress. A system that survives that kind of scale-up in a pandemic survives whatever comes next.
